The Madison County Health Coalition (MCHC) was formed in 1999 to bring together different groups that were interested in the health of people of Madison County.  We became incorporated and got our not for profit 501c3 to act as an umbrella group to help develop community health projects.  We have by-laws, mission and vision statements, an executive board and an organizational chart.  We work in cooperation with the Arkansas Department of Health as a Hometown Health Improvement Project.  We develop a local Health Resource Guide each year in a way to communicate with people in Madison County since we don't have a local radio station and our newspaper is published weekly.  The Madison County Health Coalition has over twenty members that include representatives from the Department of Human Services, the Madison County Health Unit, Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star, Lions Club, schools, local clinics, pharmacies, and other businesses who meet monthly.  In addition to members, the MCHC has Community Action Projects (CAP).

Madison County Health Coalition has a yearly fundraiser and we have received several grants over the past few years.  MCHC currently has a Community-Based Tobacco Prevention Grant with which we are working to expand our coalition and include the Hispanic population in our efforts.

The Madison County Health Coalition is determined to have "better health for our community".

The RVTFC wants to make sure people know the truth about smoking and secondhand smoke.  Truths like:

ü   The tobacco industry spends $1 million a week in Arkansas on marketing that attracts our youth to its deadly products. ($13 million a day nationally)

ü   Secondhand Smoke contains over 4,000 chemicals and 40 carcinogens including: Formaldehyde, cyanide, arsenic, carbon monoxide, methane, & benzene.  You are passively smoking when you breathe secondhand smoke.

How can you help?  Get involved with the coalition.  Join one of the coalition’s committees.  Be a Friend of the Coalition by endorsing efforts and offering signatures of support.  Encourage partnerships where you work or with community groups that you belong to.  Talk to your legislator about your concerns regarding tobacco use and the hazards of secondhand smoke.  Educate your friends and loved ones about the hazards of tobacco use.
