The Director of the Coalition for a Tobacco Free Arkansas is responsible for planning, organizing and directing the operations of the Coalition. In leading the Coalition, the Director develops and administers the overall program and coordinates the day to day operations of the organization. This involves financial oversight, including developing and managing budgets, monthly and quarterly financial reporting, negotiating contracts with subcontractors, coordinating fundraising activities, and managing sub-grants. Additionally, the Director participates in state and local policy advocacy efforts and acts as a liaison with health professionals, local coalition members, and elected officials to carry out goals for clean in-door air facilities.

Policy Specialist (vacant)

The Policy Specialist is responsible for developing a comprehensive statewide policy plan. In developing a plan, the Policy Specialist participates in local and state policy advocacy efforts. This involves working with local and statewide coalitions, community organizations and citizens to implement public policy initiatives. By participating in local policy advocacy efforts, the Policy Specialist works with local tobacco coalitions in developing municipal ordinances, assists in the development of individual municipal plans and provide oversight of legal issues in cooperation with policy consultants, media specialist and program director. Other responsibilities include cultivating relationships with local legislators and members of the business community, coordinating an annual legislative luncheon, developing a quarterly statewide newsletter as well as researching and analyzing data pertinent to the Coalition.

Media Specialist

The Media Specialist is responsible for developing a strategic statewide communication plan for the Coalition as well as assisting local coalitions in developing a local media plan. The Media Specialist works with the Policy Specialist to develop strategic plans to communicate clean-air initiative efforts as well as developing and implementing policy specific media. Other responsibilities include overseeing the Coalition website, developing messages, conducting media trainings, and participating in local policy advocacy efforts.

Grassroots Specialist

The Grassroots Specialist has the responsibility of developing a statewide grassroots network that assists in building coalitions, supporting the implementation of activities within those coalitions, and participating in local policy efforts. In developing this network, the Grassroots Specialist can provide assistance in coordinating grassroots committees by planning yearly regional and state meetings and trainings.

Administrative Assistant (vacant)


The Administrative Assistant provides information and assistance for the public related to the Coalition’s efforts. In assisting in the day to day operations of the Coalition, the Administrative Assistant prepares documents, letters, memos and reports, as well as reviews, answers or prepares correspondence relating to the Coalition’s functions. The Administrative Assistant greets visitors, answers telephones, routes calls, takes messages and assists staff by maintaining appointment calendars and making travel arrangements. Other responsibilities include establishing and maintaining files and the Coalition database as well as research and analyze data pertinent to the Coalition.
